Storage wars! Built-in shelving and cabinetry to the rescue!

Are you running out of creative ways to get clutter off your floors, make mismatched furniture achieve a cohesive look, or display your collection of books? Built-in shelving and cabinetry installation could solve your innovative storage stymies. Read on for more rationale for going all-in with built-ins.

  1. Optimize restricted space and tricky layouts
Interior dimensions are finite, which can be difficult to deal with, but nothing fits like a design specific to the space. Well-designed built-ins allow homeowners to create abundant storage without leaving unusable, dead space. The uptick in remote work has made space to store office supplies a coveted feature amongst home features.By adding dedicated storage space, built-ins make it easy to keep a space orderly. “A place for everything and everything in its place.” Options vary from completely open bookshelves to closed cabinets to lower cabinets with drawers and bookshelves on top. Display with concealment in one.

  2. Create a focal point
Many newly built homes lack architectural elements such as crown moulding, wainscotting and/or built-in bookshelves. Built-in room details - bookcases flanking a fireplace or media zone - help to add interest and character. Other areas to consider built-ins: kitchen banquettes, basement/kids’ room alcove/reading nook, mudroom boot bench or even laundry room storage.

  3. Add display space
“Thou shalt not use countertops as storage or display space for coveted curios.” Successful built-ins include space for showcasing prized items and include adjustable shelves to accommodate various items as tastes and collections vary over time.

  4.  Define space usage
Thoughtful design defines what a room is used for. For example, a row of bookshelves installed along one wall turns a nondescript room into an office, library or study. That same room outfitted with bookshelves and cabinets to house audio/visual components electronics then becomes a media or listening room.
